The “Big Bang Machine” van will be at Città dell’Altra Economia in Rome on September 26 and 27, 2025 from 6.30 PM to 11.00 PM. Its presence in Rome is part of the European Researchers’Night (ERN) and the PICO project activities (GA 101162413), with the support of the Virgo Group at the University Roma1. The “Big Bang Machine” is a mobile immersive installation created by EGO with the support of the EU-funded project AHEAD2020, Fondazione Pisa and IVECO. It offers visitors a virtual journey through space and time to the origins of the Universe. Like on a science fiction spacecraft, visitors will travel back in time to explore some of the most extreme phenomena in the Universe: massive black holes, neutron star mergers, and the very first instants of the sosmos, when the building blocks of matter were formed. Alongside the van, researchers from the Virgo Collaborarion will be on hand to share their work and explain how the interferometer operates-an incredibly sensitive instrumet capable of detecting gravitational waves.
