European Gravitational Observatory (EGO), home of the Virgo gravitational-wave detector

On the occasion of the European Researchers’ Night, the European Gravitational Observatory (EGO) and the INFN Pisa Division are organizing a special Glitch Hunting Workshop as part of the European project PICO.

Led by Francesco Di Renzo, DetChar Coordinator of the Virgo Collaboration, the workshop will guide participants through the fascinating challenge of telling apart real gravitational-wave signals from noise and so-called “glitches” — using both images and sound.

Format: A hands-on session of about 1 hour

Audience: Up to 30 university physics students, split into two groups (15 participants each), with the following timing:

  • Group 1: 10:00 – 11:00
  • Group 2: 11:30 – 12:30
